“60 Minutes” featured a segment on Dubai, Abu Dhabi’s neighbor. The special focused on Sheik Mohammed Rashid Al Maktoum and the way he leads the wealthy Sheikdom of Dubai. His vision is one shared with Abu Dhabi which is to use its wealth to build its emirate into a super modern business, travel and living destination. Sheik Mohammed says he wants his emirate to have the highest standards for education, transportation, health care, housing and overall standard of living.
AAfter watching this special I was quite impressed with Sheik Mohammeds honesty and the vision he has for Dubai. He is questioned about his relations with the U.S. and Iran. He admits that he was against the war in Iraq, but will not go into detail. This does not keep him from doing business recognizing the U.S. as an ally. He said that he loves the U.S. and its people. He was also asked about his relations with Iran, Dubai’s close neighbor and also ally. It is apparent that he prefers peace.
This special on Dubai sheds light on the cultural values, business goals, the enormity of its wealth and scale of its growth. To some clips from the show click the link below.
