The infrastructure for the “state-of-the-art” power network on Reem Island has begun. ADWEA (Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority) has awarded ABB the job of providing Reem Island power. ABB will provide power to the new developments on the island stemming from 3 new substations on the island. The three major developers (Sorouh, Tamouh, and Reem Investments) have formed an organization called: “Bayt Al Khidma” to represent them as a whole, and to ensure all Reem projects are agreed upon. Bayt Al Khidma backs the ABB and its AED $500+ million projects on Abu Dhabi’s precious Island. According to one source, the finalization of the main grid station on Reem Island will be one year from now. Until then the temporary power network(costing around AED $20 million) will provide the island with power.
