I have been browsing the websites for Abu Dhabi’s Environment Agency and State of Environment. I find that the Stance of Abu Dhabi’s leaders on the environment is very inspiring!
It seems that President Khalifa Bin Zayed al Nahyan is serious about Abu Dhabi being an environmentally sound Emirate. He passes down responsibilities to “Competent Authorities” to ensure that activities such as recycling, reuse, proper disposal, etc. are taking place. From what I understand government states there is no excuse for improper handling of hazardous wastes, improper disposal techniques, irresponsible disposal facility management. A quote from the State of Environment Executive Summary sums up Abu Dhabi’s environmental position:
“The Emirate of Abu Dhabi is entering a new dynamic era and heading towards sustainability and integrating science, policy and decision making. Thanks to this State of the Environment Report, gone will be the days when environmental data was inaccessible to those who need it.”
The Executive Summary goes on to address issues such as: Air pollution, biodiversity, land use, overfishing, waste, water resources, agriculture and forestry, and tourism. Not only does this Summary identify the current issues, it also provides some in depth thinking and “ways forward” to initiate change.
I am very happy to see such innovative thinking by Abu Dhabi’s leaders! ![]()
