The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage organized the Mazayin Dhafra Camel Festival 2008 in Abu Dhabi. The festival seeks to preserve and celebrate culture and history in the Middle East. The Mazayin Dhafra Camel Festival took place the first week of April in Zayed City, a western province in Abu Dhabi.

Perhaps the biggest news out of the Festival was the purchase of a single camel for over $2 million USD (10 million AED). The purchase of this female camel was made by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed al-Maktoum.
