The National is being launched by Abu Dhabi Media Co. The first print copies will be released on April 17th across the UAE. The Editor in Chief Martin Newland gave some explanation as to where the name of the news source originated:

“The role of The National is to reflect society, help that society evolve and, perhaps most importantly, promote the bedrock traditions and virtues that must be preserved even in times of change and that is why we have called our paper The National.”**

There will be a gala event on April 16th hosted by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to inaugurate the papers presence in the UAE.
