In a controversial move, the United Arab Emirates have denied female tennis player Shaheer Peer’s admittance into Dubai to play a in a world class WTA tournament. Reasons being given by the U.A.E. administration are that they were worried for the tennis players safety. Just last week Peel had met some negative reaction from the fans while playing in a tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.
The WTA, and international tennis community are quite upset with this decision and have problems with politics interfering in sports. Dubai and the U.A.E. may have a tough time hosting future WTA events, in fact this years tournament probably would have been canceled over this if the players notification of denial of entrance into Dubai was not so close to the tournament start time.
